About Jo:

I’m Jo Quintanilla (she/her).

I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Canada. I focus on capturing candid & perfectly, imperfect moments that help narrate each wedding in charming, romantic, and humorous ways. I capture mannerisms, love and personality in the form of timeless & spirited photographs. I’m a photographer for all folks that share a deep appreciation for the beauty + quirks in everyday life & for preserving special memories. My work is inspired by raw emotion, vibrant colours from old cinema, fashion, nature & music. I shoot using both analogue and digital camera’s, allowing each gallery to be thoughtful & unique in it’s own ways. Being welcomed to capture such special days in peoples lives is an absolute honour— the cultures, traditions, smiles, laughs and friendships I get to experience during those fleeting moments are… the reason I love to live: Genuine human connection.

I will forever be grateful to be existing and photographing.

I’m currently based in Calgary, Alberta & living in a cozy home with my life partner.

We moved to Calgary to be closer to the mountains because we love to adventure together, with our friends & on our own.

I find determination, personal lessons & inspiration in all of my ventures out in the rockies + beyond.

I’m very grateful to be living so close to such energizing environments.

Other than photography, my creative expression shifts towards fashion & analogue collaging.

Allowing myself to welcome and explore different mediums of art and imagination brings me back to myself. Taking the time to create, to think about a subject critically, or play as if I were a kid, allows me to truly know myself as an artist & as a person in the present moment.

I watch a lot of movies from the 50s-90s, I’m intrigued by use of colour, texture & composition in films, I also listen to a wide range of music, anything with syncopated & groovy rhythms will always inspire my visual brain, but I’m not 100% sure how to explain that to a t. I simply love music and how it makes me feel.
